New Wooden Routed Trail Signs

Standards, Trail News

Please join me in welcoming Wayne Hook to the FTA family. FTA has contracted with Wayne to produce routed wooden directional and informational signs for the Florida Trail. He will be ready to accept orders as of February 1, 2006.

If you need signs for your trail segment, please download the order form for routed wooden signs. Please note that the address for submitting the orders has changed from the Tallahassee office to the Gainesville office. That is the only difference between this form and the form in the current Trail Manual.

Signs will be routed using cedar which is naturally insect- and rot-resistant and less expensive than redwood or cypress. We want to try the cedar out on the trail for a year or so and would appreciate your feedback on how the cedar is weathering.

Signs will be created using 2 x 6 and 2 x 12 dimensional lumber. Letter height will be 1.5 or 2.5 inches, depending on space. The letters will be filled in with white paint, according to the FTA Sign Plan.

Please PRINT the sign caption on the form EXACTLY as you wish it to appear on the routed sign. If there are discrepancies or we can’t read your request we will have to contact you and that will significantly slow down the sign making process.

Sign delivery will be handled in the same manner as our paint deliveries – at Board of Directors meetings, the regional and state conferences, and Trails Committee meetings. You will be notified when your sign order is complete and may specify when you or your designee will take delivery of the signs.

Remember, the routed sign orders should be submitted to the Gainesville office, not Tallahassee.
