Juniper Prairie Wilderness Update
The Florida Trail through the Juniper Prairie Wilderness is open for hiking after the recent forest fire. Hikers should be aware that the fire destroyed many of the trees and shrubs in the Wilderness and therefore most of the blazes are gone. Hikers should follow the trail tread rather than rely on blazing. Hikers should also carry extra water, particularly between Hidden Pond and FR 10. Hidden Pond was spared fire and the oak hammock is in good shape for camping. Trail crews will be working in the area through November to re-blaze and clean up the trail tread.
