Ivory-billed woodpeckers in Florida?
Along the cypress-lined floodplains of the Choctawhatchee River in the Central Panhandle, researchers have been actively searching for the ivory-billed woodpecker for more than 14 months. Our partner Nokuse Plantation is providing the funding for the 2006-2007 search; read their article on the fruitful effort thus far, including 14 documented sightings and hundreds of recordings of calls. The new field season begins in November 2006. A research paper published in Avian Conservation and Ecology illustrates the team’s findings thus far.
