Florida Hiking Trails Month Kickoff: Monkey Creek Bridge Dedication

Activities, FHTM

The Florida Trail Association and the USDA Forest Service is celebrating
the construction of the new bridge over Monkey Creek with a hike along the
Sopchoppy River (in the Apalachicola National Forest) and a dedication
ceremony this coming Saturday, February 3.  Since February is Florida
Hiking Trails Month, and it’s a great time to take a hike, join us!

To caravan to the trail, we will meet at 8:45 a.m. on Sat., Feb. 3, at
Hardee’s restaurant on US 319  (Crawfordville Rd) south of Tallahassee in Crawfordville and carpool to the trail, about 10 miles. We expect to begin our walk at about 9:30 a.m. from the FR 329 (Bradwell Bay) trailhead.

We will hike along the Sopchoppy River about 2 miles to the bridge site for
the dedication of the new bridge over Monkey Creek and have lunch (which
you will need to bring your own).  After the dedication, which we estimate
to be at 11:00 a.m., and lunch, our hikers will have the choice to hike
back to FR 329 or continue their hike to the FR 346 trailhead (Oak Park
bridge) for a total hike of about 4 miles.  Please bring you own lunch or
snack, water and dress for the weather.  Those hiking should be back in
Crawfordville by 2:30 p.m.
