Expedition Headwaters Launches!
At 10 AM this morning, seven team members of Expedition Headwaters launched from Rosen’s Shingle Creek Resort southwest of Orlando. Rising from these cypress swamps in northern Osceola County, Shingle Creek forms the northmost headwaters of Florida’s Everglades. For 12 days, expedition members will work their way along the path of the water’s flow, kayaking through the Kissimmee chain of lakes to the Kissimmee River, where the team will split in two: one group hiking the Florida Trail and the other kayaking the river to Lake Okeechobee. Both teams will meet each evening to camp and to experience educational experiences along their journey. Beth Kelso of the Alligator Amblers is our official Florida Trail representative on the journey, although the team - and folks meeting them along the way - include numerous Florida Trail members. Watch their journey through postings on the Expedition Headwaters website, which we’ll link to from here as we tap into missives sent from the trail.
