Documentary debut on WMFE: The Florida Trail: Florida’s Own National Scenic Trail

Local PBS affiliate WMFE-TV in Orlando will present the debut of the first full-length documentary about Florida’s own National Scenic Trail, the Florida Trail, on Sunday, May 27 at 12 noon. Produced by Seidler Productions and coordinated by the Florida Trail Association and the National Forests in Florida, this 27-minute program provides a linear journey along the 1,400 mile route of the Florida Trail, from the edge of the Everglades to Pensacola Beach. Established in 1966, this hiking trail became Congressionally designated as one of only eight National Scenic Trails in 1983, and is federally managed by the USDA Forest Service. The Florida Trail passes through federal, state, and county public lands, providing a place to hike within an hour of most Florida residents.

With National Trails Day celebrated around the United States on June 2, this presentation of Florida’s best hiking opportunities lets you enjoy an armchair “walk in the woods” while awaiting the kickoff of Florida’s hiking season this fall. Leading up to National Trails Day, WMFE will air the program on its digital channels WMFE CFAN and WMFE Encore! For specific on-air times, see the broadcast schedule at wmfe.org.

For more information about the Florida Trail, visit www.floridatrail.org or call 1-877-HIKE-FLA. The Florida Trail Association offers guided hikes, local chapters providing environmental education and a place to meet other outdoor enthusiasts, and the opportunity for you to get involved in building, maintaining, protecting, and promoting hiking and camping throughout Florida along the Florida Trail.
