Description
The new trail segment through Chandler Slough North is open to
hikers. Northbound hikers coming to U.S. 98 on Lofton Road, go left
about 0.8 mi crossing two channels of Chandler Slough on low highway
bridges. About 0.1 mi past the second bridge, go over the stile and
follow orange blazes, passing through a total of 5 wire gaps (”cowboy
gates”) in barbed wired fences on the way toward the Kissimmee River.
About 0.1 mi before the river, the trail returns to the road, crosses
U.S. 98, and then crosses the river on the highway bridge to the
trail through Basinger, which begins at the gate immediately after
crossing the bridge. Southbound hikers reverse the foregoing
instructions to proceed from Basinger to Lofton Road. The entire
route, including the short road walks, is orange blazed.
